Los Angeles – Verizon Wireless has informed its subscribers
who own one of Microsoft’s (NASD: MSFT) Kin mobile phones that it will discontinue many of
the device’s unique data services on Jan. 31, WPCentral.com reported. Services
to be dropped include Kin Loop, the device’s automated stream of social status
updates, and Kin Studio, a daily diary of one’s online activities. Facing poor
reviews, Microsoft in June announced it would discontinue the Kin, just two
months after it went on sale. Verizon is offering a free 3G phone to Kin owners
as compensation.
