Mountain View,
Calif.
– Playdom, a publisher of
social games, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Acclaim Games, a
developer of social and downloadable casual games.

Financial terms of the
transaction were not disclosed.

The Acclaim brand has been publishing video games
since the 1980s; the company declared bankruptcy in 2004 and was re-launched in
2006 as a publisher of social and casual games.

Acclaim’s current titles
include "RockFree" on Facebook.

Mountain View,
Calif.-based Playdom’s social games include "Social City,"
"Mobsters" and "Sorority Life."

The company raised $43
million in financing last November, and since then has acquired or invested in
game studios including Merscom, Trippert Labs, Offbeat Creations, Three Melons,
Green Patch and MetroGames.
