Los Angeles – Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has slashed the price of Microsoft’s (NASD: MSFT)
new Kin smartphones, with the Kin One discounted from $49 to $29, while the Kin
Two will sell for $49, down from $99.
The new price points require the signing
of a two-year service contract, and a data plan costing at least $29 per month.
CNET News.com notes that Kin sales "appear to be below even [Microsoft’s]
rather modest expectations."
Microsoft released the Kin handsets in May,
which boast social networking and media integration with Zune, and are targeted
at younger buyers.
