New York – BlackBerry smartphone maker Research in Motion
(RIM) (NASD: RIMM) is working on a new tablet computer — codenamed the "BlackPad"
— that will run an entirely new operating system and may be introduced as
early as next week, The Wall Street Journal reported. The BlackPad will
reportedly sports a seven-inch screen, one or two cameras, Bluetooth and
broadband connections, and the ability to connect to cellular networks via a
BlackBerry.
The tablet will also reportedly run a new operating system built by
RIM acquisition QNX Software Systems, sources told The Journal.
The BlackPad is
expected to be released sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
