Libertyville, Ill. – Motorola (NYSE:  MOT) on Wednesday filed patent
infringement claims against Apple (NASD:  AAPL), alleging the company’s iPhone, iPad, iPod
touch and Mac computers are infringing on Motorola patents. The company says Apple is violating 18 Motorola patents,
related to technologies including Apple’s MobileMe and App Store, as well as
antenna design, wireless email, proximity sensing, software application
management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization.

Motorola both sued
Apple for patent infringement in federal courts in Illinois and Florida, and
filed patent complaints against Apple with the U.S. International Trade
Commission (USITC).

The company is seeking an injunction and unspecified damages against Apple in the federal
lawsuits, while it asked the USITC for a ban on importation of Apple’s
infringing products into the U.S. from the company’s Asian manufacturing
partners.

Motorola’s actions against Apple come after similar patent infringement
claims were volleyed between Apple and Nokia in recent months, and Microsoft’s
filing of a patent suit against Motorola last week related to mobile phone
software.

  1. Oracle going after Google,
    MS going after Motorola
    Apple going after Nokia
Some crappy company getting 690 million for cover flow.

Give me a break. Software patents suck

  2. …and the probable outcome of these suits is that a bunch of lawyers will get rich working these cases and not much else will change.
