Washington – The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an
appeal from a convicted teenage file-swapper, who had argued that the amount of
damages she was ordered to pay should be reduced because she didn’t realize she
was infringing copyrights, the Associated Press reported.

Whitney Harper was 16
years old when she was sued by record labels for copyright infringement, and
had argued in court that she was an "innocent infringer," not aware
that sharing music on peer-to-peer networks was illegal.

AP notes that Justice
Samuel Alito dissented in the Court’s rejection of certiorari.
