New York – Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) will introduce a new line of tablet PCs
to compete with Apple’s iPad at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las
Vegas in January, The New York Times reported, citing people familiar with the
matter.

The company is expected to show off new tablets built by manufacturing
partners including Samsung and Dell, which will run the company’s Windows 7
operating system.

A Microsoft employee told The Times the company is pushing developers
to create HTML5-based applications for the devices, which the developers would
sell from their own websites, rather than from a branded app store.
