Philadelphia – Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), the nation’s largest cable TV
provider, is currently testing a new service that delivers both digital
television and Web content to a television via a digital video recorder set-top
box, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Web offering on the service,
codenamed "Xcalibur," is reportedly limited to select video content
and social networking applications, at least on this test version.

The Journal
reports that Comcast has been working on Xcalibur for more than a year, and
sees the service as a response to consumer "cord-cutting" on cable TV
services in favor of Web offerings, as well as new hybrid services like Apple
TV and Google TV.
