Seattle – Online retail giant Amazon (NASD: AMZN) may be gearing up to
launch a nationwide service that offers free delivery of groceries purchased on
the site.

The Financial Times reported that the company is now recruiting staff
to expand AmazonTote, a service it has been testing in Seattle since last
summer.

A notice on the site said the service would be "expanding
soon," before it was removed Monday. Amazon declined to comment.

The
service lets customers shop online for household and grocery items, then
delivers their orders for free on a predetermined day each week, with no
minimum purchase. Items are delivered in reusable tote bags.
