Cupertino, Calif. – Backed by $12 million in funding from publisher
Gannett, The Washington Post and The New York Times, Ongo on Tuesday formally
launched its paid digital news service.

The service charges $6.99 a month for
access to select content from the AP, Washington Post, USA Today, New York Times
and Financial Times.

Subscribers can add one title from a list of selected
publications as part of the basic subscription package, with additional titles
available starting at $0.99 a month.

The service debuts with more than a dozen
publications, which all display articles using the company’s interface through
computers, smartphones and tablets.

Specialized tools are designed to
customize articles to a reader’s preferences, as well allow subscribers to
share content through discussion groups.

At launch, Ongo is offering a free
one-month trial to those who create accounts, as well as a free "day
pass" that doesn’t require credit card information.
