Newton, Mass. – InStream Media, a Newton-based provider of point of purchasing advertising and targeted mobile messaging, has raised about $1.4 million in venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Founded in 2006, InStream helps brand-name companies to precisely target shoppers in store and “on the go,” as well offering special promotions. The company was formed by a group from the Stevens Institute of Technology based on technology that was initially developed at Stevens for homeland security applications. Stevens Institute provided initial investment for the company.
