A new contest brings together Cinedigm Digital Cinema, National Geographic Entertainment, YouTube and Hipstamatic in a campaign that may also elevate the status of user-generated content.

Consumers are invited to submit photos taken with the Hipstamatic iPhone/iPod Touch app that illustrate a moment in their daily lives. National Geographic photo editors will choose the best 20 photos, which then will be featured on movie theatre screens around the country, the National Geographic photography homepage, and on the Life in a Day YouTube channel.

The campaign was inspired by the movie Life in a Day by Oscar© winners director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), and executive producer Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner). The filmmakers asked YouTube users from around the world to capture a single day of their lives on camera, then used this footage to create a feature-length movie that shows the wide variety of ways people 192 countries go about their day.

The winning 20 photos will be shown as pre-roll at Life in a Day premiere screenings on July 24. Audience voting will determine three winners of additional prizes.
