San Francisco, Calif. — Twitter announced on their blog today that they have reached 200 million tweets a day.
Up from 65 million tweets just a year ago, the multi-billion dollar social networking company compared the number of tweets to the equivalent of 10 million-page book or 8,163 copies of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, according to the official blog.
Contrary to what some commentator’s say, these tweets aren’t just mindless thoughts. They often break news events or assist in emergencies.
Some of 2011’s top Trending Topics so far include #prayforjapan, William & Kate, AH1N1 Swine Flu on the news side, to Rebecca Black, Charlie Sheen and Tom & Jerry on the celebrity and fads side.
