Twitter announced Tuesday that it had acquired analytics startup BackType, a move that AdWeek said will enable the microblogging company to offer more services to publishers.
BackType’s products include BackTweets, which the company’s blog said helps publishers understand who they are reaching and how Tweets covert to other actions like sales and website traffic. BackTweets will still be available to existing users at no cost but will not accept any new registrations. Other BackType product and API services will be discontinued, as the technology and the team migrate into Twitter.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed, GigaOm said. BackType has raised $1.3 million in venture capital since its 2008 launch from Y-Combinator, True Ventures and other investors.
