Yahoo! announced the official launch of Yahoo! Clues, a free service designed for serious business like analyzing site traffic and helping advertisers select key words, but which also serves as a fun way to see what’s going on in the search world.
One of the new features added since the service first became available in November, 2010 is Top Trends, which lets users limit what makes the list by applying a range of filters like time range, age group, gender and geographic location.
Brian Theodore, Yahoo! Director of Search Products, said the revamped service could provide the answers to countless questions for either entertainment or business reasons. He blogged a few samples, including:
- Who’s the most popular politician by men between 25 and 34 in Texas?
- What’s the most popular baseball team by people in Osaka, Japan?
- Who’s the most popular actress by women vs. men in Brazil in the past week?
A significant amount of data is crunched to achieve the results — in March, for example, Yahoo! experienced more than 716 million unique visitors resulting in over 88 billion page views.
