San Francisco – Kixeye, a San Francisco-based independent game developer formerly known as Casual Collective, said on Thursday it has raised $18 million in its third round of funding, led by Jafco Ventures. Previous backers Trinity Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners also participated in the round, which the company will use to expand its staff and develop new titles.

Kixeye, which previously had raised only $4.5 million, said it has been profitable for the past eight months.

The company, which has developed titles such as Backyard Monsters, Battle Pirates and Desktop Tower Defense, has grown from three to 60 employees over the past 18 months, and now has more than 5 million monthly users on Facebook.
