NBC released a free mobile app just in time for the many viewers who shared their Thanksgiving with NBC and a canine family member for The National Dog Show Presented by Purina, to cite its official full name. The app stands alone, but it also served as a second screen enhancement during the two-hour broadcast.

It includes the event’s Twitter feed, backstage video, interviews with host John O’Hurley and other humans, in-depth descriptions of and videos showing the 170-plus breeds in the show, explanations of judging standards, photos from previous shows and more.

Viewer numbers aren’t yet available, but past broadcasts of the event have had more than 18 million total viewers. This year’s top dog award went to GCH CH Steele Your Heart, a wire fox terrier.

NBC and Purina are helping another dog to stardom as well. Mishka the Talking Husky (pictured), whose YouTube videos have garnered more than 200 million views, made her broadcast debut Thanksgiving Day in a television ad for a Nestle Purina PetCare nutritional supplement.
