Apple today released a developer preview of OS X Mountain Lion, an operating system that unifies the Mac experience even further across the desktop, iPad and iPhone. The upgrade will be available to the general population of Mac users in late summer 2012.

One of the most interesting new features is Gatekeeper, a security feature that gives users more control over installing apps.

Mountain Lion also is the first OS X built specifically to take advantage of the iCloud storage and synchronization capabilities. Satisfying many users’ wish lists, it also brings some popular features from the iPhone to the Mac, including Messages, Notes, Reminders and Game Center.
