London – U.K. streaming music service We7 announced on
Wednesday a new focus on personalized Web radio, noting that users prefer a
"Pandora-like" experience to its current model that provides
on-demand streaming.
The company launched its Internet Radio Plus service in
January, providing users with a radio station tailored after an artist or song
is chosen.
By September, CEO Steve Purdham says, "more than 55% of tracks
were being accessed through radio rather than on-demand."
We7 further told Music
Ally that in October, 63% of all site visitors and 83% of regular visitors used
the radio service.
"This is a massive hint on how people want to listen to
music. Put simply, it states ‘entertain me but let me have control when I want
it,’" Purdham added.
"I have to admit that this positive consumer
shift to Radio streams does benefit the economics of the we7 financial model
and its brilliant when the needs of the business and consumer demand align in
this way."
