San Mateo, Calif. – Fanhattan, a start-up developing
entertainment content discovery technology, announced that it has acquired
Canada-based Open Movie Database, a database of entertainment content.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fanhattan plans to launch its entertainment discovery service in early 2011,
promising "an intuitive browsing experience that uses advanced algorithms
to surface the most relevant and compelling premium entertainment of the
moment, as well as library content as far back as the user wants to go."

Fanhattan was developed by the team that created Vuze, a BitTorrent
file-sharing client focused on HD video.

The company has received venture
capital from New Enterprise Associates, Redpoint Ventures, Greycroft Partners
and BV Capital.
