Cupertino, Calif. – Apple (NASD: AAPL) has started to use its iPads as virtual signs within its retail stores, CNET and others reported.

The “Smart Signs” are being used to display pricing and product customization details, and can be used to page a retail store employee for assistance.

When an Apple store employee picks up the help request, the iPad displays the name of the employee who is on the way to assist the customer.

The company is continuing to use paper displays next to some products, such as device accessories.
