It might not be light-years ahead of the broadcast, but everyone with the free PBS app can watch the first episode of NOVA’s The Fabric of the Cosmos beginning today, a full week before the four-part series begins on Nov. 2. Each episode also will be streamed on video.pbs.org, but not until it goes on the air.
In The Fabric of the Cosmos, physicist Brian Greene guides viewers to the amazing wonders on the frontiers of physics, exploring how scientists are piecing together the most complete picture yet of space, time and the universe.
Further extending the program, NOVA is partnering with The World Science Festival and Columbia University for a screening followed by a Nov. 2 live-streamed webcast that includes the in-theatre and digital audiences in direct conversation with Greene and other featured program participants, including Saul Perlmutter, winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics.
The PBS app, which is only available for iOS, includes programming enhancements, full-length programs, as well as TV schedules, previews and a tune-in reminder calendar that can be synched with iCal.
“Brian Greene’s The Fabric of the Cosmos is an amazing journey into some truly astounding theories of our universe,” said Jason Seiken, senior vice president, Interactive, Product Development & Innovation. “On mobile, viewers get a sneak preview of the series’ futuristic concepts and graphics leading up to the broadcast premiere and can continue their scientific exploration throughout the series.”
