Sid Ganis has joined Dolby Laboratories Inc. as a strategic advisor, where he will work to expand the company’s relationships with Hollywood’s creators, producers and exhibitors. Ganis certainly has the reputation, respect and phone book for the job, seeing as he recently served as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Before being named president of AMPAS, Ganis served four terms as first vice president and has been a member of the Board of Governors representing the public relations branch of the Academy.
He previously has held various global corporate and strategic positions at Sony Pictures Entertainment, including president of worldwide marketing for Columbia TriStar, vice chairman of Columbia Pictures, and president of marketing and distribution for Columbia Pictures. His career additionally includes several senior positions at Lucasfilm, Warner Bros., Paramount and Twentieth Century Fox.
Ganis currently is on the board of premium video ad platform DeskSite. He has also sat on the boards of directors for Marvel Entertainment, Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, and the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.
