Baltimore, Md. – While Apple’s (NASD:  AAPL) iOS platform still commands
the greatest share of mobile ad requests, according to a new report from mobile
ad network Millennial Media, Google (NASD:  GOOG) Android-powered smartphones overtook RIM’s (NASD:  RIMM)
BlackBerry for second place in July. The iPhone accounted for 55% of mobile ad
requests in July on Millennial’s network — which Nielsen says reaches some 80%
of U.S. mobile users — compared with 19% for Android and 16% for RIM.

Apple
mobile ad requests were up 24% month-over-month, and are up 15% year-to-date.

Android mobile ad requests grew 47% in July, and are up 690% since January,
while for RIM mobile ad requests increased 18% in July, and have risen 66% overall
this year.

Millennial notes that aside from smartphones, "connected
devices" like Apple’s iPad and iPod touch, and the Nintendo DS now account
for 19% of all mobile ad requests.
