San Francisco – Apple (NASD: AAPL) is set to lengthen the streaming song
samples offered on its iTunes Store from 30-seconds to as long as 90-seconds,
CNET News.com reported, citing sources.

At a media event scheduled by the
company for Wednesday, CEO Steve Jobs is expected to focus on music discovery
improvements to iTunes, sources tell CNET.

While it’s unlikely Apple will
launch a cloud-based music streaming service — as the company has not secured
new licenses from the record labels — the article cites a "small
chance" Apple will launch a cloud streaming service, if the company
believes its current licenses are adequate.

The lengthier samples will please those consumers who have complained that 30 seconds is not long enough to judge the subjective quality of many songs.
