San Francisco – Twitter now counts over 145 million
registered users, co-founder Evan Williams revealed in a post on the company’s
blog. Williams also noted that the number of mobile users of Twitter has risen
62% since mid-April.
Sixteen percent of all new Twitter users start on mobile,
and 46% of active users are using mobile devices to tweet regularly.
Over the
past month, 78% of users who logged into Twitter did so directly on
Twitter.com, while 14% used m.twitter.com.
Another 8% tweeted via SMS message,
while 8% used Twitter for iPhone; 7% used Twitter for BlackBerry; 4% used
TwitPic; and 3% used TweetDeck or Echofon.
Williams added that the number of
third-party applications registered with Twitter is now nearing 300,000.
