Palo Alto, Calif. – Facebook plans to introduce a mobile application optimized for the iPad in the coming weeks, The New York Times reports.

When Apple’s iPad went on sale, Facebook was not optimized for the device — causing a number of complaints that led to third-party developers creating Facebook-friendly applications.

Over a year later, the multi-billion dollar company will be introducing a free iPad application with features like the ability to shoot and upload photos and videos directly from the device’s built-in camera, and reformatted chat and group features.

“The photo and video experience is amazing, offering full resolution and full-screen images,” a person who has seen the app told The Times.

The two companies have not commented on the new application, and it remains unclear when it will be released.
