Mobile local search and advertising company Poynt Corp. is celebrating today, because the Poynt app it launched in June 2008 reached the 10 million unique users milestone.

Increasing penetration of smartphones has helped grow the Canadian company, which is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. It has added 1.5 million of these new users since July 2011, and its user base has experienced 900 percent growth in the past two years.

“As Poynt becomes available across more geographies and devices, we anticipate a significant acceleration in user numbers and associated revenues,” said Andrew Osis, president and CEO, Poynt Corp. “More users drive more search queries which has the ability to broaden our revenue stream. User queries may be monetized in a variety of ways, including ticket purchases within the app and highly targeted contextual and location-based advertisements.”

Poynt is available as a free download for users in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Australia on iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia devices, along with BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry Playbook tablets.

As one of the company’s promotional activities, Poynt is a NASCAR sponsor: the No. 15 Ford Mustang driven by Rick Ware Racing’s Timmy Hill.
