Arlington, Va. – SoundBite Communications, a Massachusetts-based developer of cloud-based customer communications tools, said on Monday it has paid $3.8 million to acquire Arlington, Mass.-based 2ergo Americas from U.K. mobile business and marketing technology firm 2ergo Group.

SoundBite said the acquisition bolsters its mobile marketing offering with self-service SMS, mobile coupons, QR code and mobile web platforms.

As part of the deal, SoundBite has become an authorized reseller of 2ergo Group’s podifi contactless redemption and in-store location service, which includes mobile couponing, loyalty, payment and in-store check-in capabilities. “This acquisition… will help establish SoundBite as a top player in mobile marketing,” said Jim Milton, the president and CEO of SoundBite.

2ergo Americas is now part of SoundBite’s Mobile Services business, which the company established following its acquisition of SmartReply last June. Seventeen employees have joined SoundBite.
