Menlo Park, Calif. – Facebook announced the launch of App Center, an area for discovering all types of apps, both mobile and online, using personalized recommendations and social technologies.
The move will give Facebook a similar offering to Google, Apple and Amazon.
“The App Center gives you personalized recommendations, and lets you browse the apps your friends use,” the company wrote. “It only lists high-quality apps, based on feedback from people who use the app.”
The App Center is starting with 600 apps, and was made available in the United States on Friday. It will launch around the world over the next two weeks.
Some of the apps featured on the App Center include Draw Something, Pinterest and Nike+ GPS. The App Center is available in the Facebook iOS and Android apps, as well as Facebook.com.
