Dave Gibbons, the artist who co-created Watchmen with writer Alan Moore, has taken his talents to Madefire, an interactive publisher with the iPad in mind.
Moore also is on the Madefire advisory board, as is Mike McCue, CEO and founder of Flipboard; Sina Tamaddon, former senior vice president of Applications for Apple Inc., Toni Schneider, CEO of Automattic, creators of WordPress.com; and Eisner Award-winning artist and writer Bill Sienkiewicz.
Madefire said its users can expect a unique experience that takes advantage of the tablet’s gyroscope and accelerometer in addition to the Retina display.
The company released its app this week with three original titles and four previews. Titles are distributed episodically every two weeks.
As of today, the available titles are: Treatment: Tokyo by Dave Gibbons, Kinman Chan, and Robbie Morrison; Treatment: Mexico City by Dave Gibbons, Doug Braithwaite, and Robbie Morrison; and Mono by Ben Wolstenholme and Liam Sharp.
Founded in 2011 by Moving Brands CEO Ben Wolstenholme, comic writer/artist Liam Sharp and technology entrepreneur Eugene Walden, Madefire is backed by True Ventures. Madefire will also be making their publishing tools available to anybody who wants to create their own original comics or graphic novels in its proprietary Motion Book format.
