Jay Frank, author of the book FutureHit.DNA and former music executive at CMT and Yahoo! Music, today announced his new music company DigSin. The concept of the company is that fans sign up for a free subscription, and artists sign with DigSin for individual songs instead of for their entire musical output.

Will Rhapsody's Purchase Kill Off Napster?

Napster has entered a new chapter in its storied life. In news that will cause flashbacks for digital media veterans, Rhapsody has signed an agreement to acquire Napster subscribers and certain other assets, in exchange for which Napster’s parent Best Buy will receive a minority stake in Rhapsody. Further details were not disclosed for the transaction, which is expected to close around the end of November.

Sun Records Sees the Light with Grooveshark

Grooveshark will become the first music streaming service to offer recordings from the world-famous Sun Records, the indie label with some justifiction for its slogan, “Where rock & roll was born.” Among the artists with music included in the deal are Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison.

Univision Deal Says Queremos Que la iHeartRadio

Apparently 800 live, professional radio stations, together with personalized radio streams, aren’t enough for Clear Channel’s New iHeartRadio. Clear Channel Radio and Univision announced Tuesday that 45 of Univision Radio’s stations will become available on the New iHeartRadio across all platforms, marking iHeartRadio’s first third-party distribution partner. The deal includes programs by well-known Hispanic radio personalities like Omar Y Argelia, Dra. Isabel, Luis Jiménez, Raul Brindis (y Pepito), Piolín and Javier Romero.

Spotify Now Requires Facebook ID, Users Howl

Spotify has warmly embraced its Facebook integration, changing its new user registration to require logging in with a Facebook account. Anyone who wants to join Spotify from now on will have to have a Facebook account to do so. Existing Spotify members will not be affected by the new rules, but even so a very vocal minority is complaining about the move and angry about the deeper implications of Facebook keeping tabs on their listening habits.

ESPN Audio and Slacker Inc. went live with the first radio service to feature ESPN Radio in a personalized context. The interactive ESPN Radio station includes major sporting event coverage and news stories, in addition to content from ESPN programs and platforms including "Mike and Mike in the Morning," "SportsCenter," and "The Herd with Colin Cowherd." Access to ESPN content varies according to a listener’s tier of service.
