Santa Clara, Calif. – Intel, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker, said on Monday it will acquire the InfiniBand business of Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based QLogic for $125 million in cash.

The deal is expected to close by the end of this quarter.

A “significant” number of the employees associated with the business are expected to accept offers to join Intel.

“Adding QLogic’s InfiniBand product line to our networking portfolio will bring increased options and exceptional value to our datacenter customers,” said Kirk Skaugen, the vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Center and Connected System Group.

Intel said the acquisition will bolster its networking portfolio and add high-performance computing fabric technology.
