New York – Vevo, the online music video portal joint venture
between Universal Music Group, Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music and Abu Dhabi Media Company, is
looking into the prospects of launching a new TV network focused on music
videos to compete with MTV (NYSE: VIA), the New York Post reported.

Vevo CEO Rio Caraeff
told the Post the channel would offer a mix of programming, live events and
archived performances as well.

The firm has no carriage deals in place with
cable or satellite providers.

However, Vevo is courting makers of set-top boxes
and Web-ready TVs, and its service will reportedly be included in forthcoming Sony
sets that feature Google TV.
