USA Network will use tonight’s season finale of 'Necessary Roughness' to go live with an expansion of its Character Chatter platform that includes integration with Facebook. During the episode, fans will be able to chat live with star Callie Thorne (who plays Dr. Dani Santino, pictured), interact with other viewers, and follow a feed created by script writers and other cast members.

Twitter unveiled a new analytics tool Tuesday, and on the same day announced an expansion of its Promoted Tweets program that will put ads into people’s stream even if they don’t follow that particular brand. Twitter Web Analytics is designed to help website owners understand how much traffic they receive from Twitter and the effectiveness of Twitter integrations on their sites, the company said.

EA and Playfish's The Sims Social has overtaken Zynga's FarmVille in daily active users on Facebook, an achievement that makes it EA’s most successful Facebook game. During the past 24 hours, almost 9.48 million people became the deity of their own Sims inhabitants on Facebook, according to statistics from AppData. That’s significantly more than the 8.25 million who chose to cultivate the virtual soil of FarmVille during the same time period.

Google Ventures Finds a Friend in Echoecho
Google Ventures, the investment arm of Mountain View-based Google, said it has invested in Los Angeles-based Echoecho, developer of a location-based mobile app for finding friends. The investment was part of a $750,000 seed round that also included participation from U.K.-based venture firm PROfounders Capital.
Facebook Names Former White House Chief of Staff to Board
Social network Facebook has named Erskine Bowles, the former administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and White House Chief of Staff under President Clinton, to its board of directors.Bowles currently serves as the president emeritus of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system, and also holds board positions with Morgan Stanley, Cousins Properties, Norfolk Southern and Belk.
